I've found several wheat Pennies but this one is one of the better looking ones. I think it's really pretty. Yes I'm a dork. Lol
I think the flash brighten it but it's still bright. I didn't even have to clean it but with a dry rag
It must be the light. It looks much better now. I'm not saying you cleaned it, just found it that way. Now it looks normal.
Much better pics but it hurt my neck to view them. Nice and clean with a lack of wear after 79 years.
Pretty nice find! Fields look pretty clear; not too many distracting nicks or gouges (though something going on around the "AM" of "AMERICA"); solid rims and no bleed of the motto, date or "L" of "Liberty" into the rim; Jaw line still pretty distinct and only real noticeable wear on the high cheekbone and maybe some visible wear on the Wheat kernels; still nice separation of the lines on the Wheat stalk. All and all, based on the photos, looks to be high VF maybe low XF? Yep, nice find. BTW, never rub your coin, even with a cloth; a penny (part of 1982 and earlier) is 95% copper so even the slightest wiping will show. If your coin was upper AU or uncirculated, doing so would almost certainly lower its value. If it has dust or light dirt, you could swirl it around in distilled water, shake off the excess water then air dry it, and if it really has a lot of gunk on it you could try an acetone bath (the real stuff and not nail polish remover). If you search the forum some of the more experienced members have some good posts on the do's and don'ts of cleaning. Again, well done and keep looking!
