Hi, recently my father died and I was left with boxes upon boxes of his things. His father was an avid coin collector so naturally these were passed to me. I found a few really cool coins from the US mint but the most interesting one to me is this Tiberius coin. I know nothing of coins and I know these are some of the most faked ones out there, so I came here to ask you guys if you feel this is legit or not. I’m leaning towards maybe not because of how it’s been encased like some novelty item, but I thought it wouldn’t hurt to ask. 415539C0-7F58-4771-A8DF-1EE3730CF60E.jpeg 5A2F6821-3AF5-4A97-A826-41058B60C8AA.jpeg

You are right, it is not genuine.

@DominicP , maybe still another assertion that it is a fake will remove any doubts you have. It is a definitely a poor fake.

Sorry, but as mentioned, the coin is but a crude imitation, and a poor one at that.

However, that being said, it is a neat little curio in its own right. I would imagine it could be as much as 50 years old.

@H8_modern collects these vintage Lucite paperweights with coins in them. Not sure he collects coin-like items such as this, but this would look nice on a shelf or desk. The ugliness of the fake coin inside is kind of appealing, in a weird, kitschy sort of way.

It should have some modest value in that regard- as a vintage novelty. Not much- but not worthless, either. Too bad it's not a real coin in there, but then again, I'd not like to see a real Tribute penny entombed in Lucite.

Though the portraiture is quite horrid, I actually like it. Go figure. Fun item.
