Hi mate. I’m new to this site. Nice coin. I also have one. I don’t know too much about these coins. Can you supply any info about a mint state valens solidus?

I got mine from CNG few months ago unfortunately it has a edge cut as was removed from a mount I believe nevertheless I paid right price considering this which was within my budget. ( The better condition could cost way more )

@panzerman , that is a real beauty--very crisp too. I presume the obverse photo shows the true color better than the reverse photo.

Thanks, yes the obverse shows better, I took those photos/ not very good....
Coin was from Tkalec AG Auction in 2006. I was really lucky in that auction, I ended up winning the FDC Valens for 1600 SFRS/ and best for last a FDC Constantius I Chlorus Aureus Ticinum Mint/ 2 known for 9000 SFRS:happy:

Hi Conrad/ Valens is a more common Emperor/ the Solidi/ Tremissis/ Semissis were struck at 10 different mints. In FDC the coins are pricey still:(
A really good source reference book on Roman Imperial/ Byzantine coinage is ERIC II.

I don't mind. The coin shop no longer deals in Ancient coins however. Ancient and Historical Coins and Ancient Artifacts. Now they deal almost exclusively in Asian coins and artifacts. They are expats located in Bangkok
