Here is a really neat coin that I won from Cayon Auctions/Spain.

    AV 8 Escudos 1773-JS Popayan Mint/ Colombia
Carlos III Bourbon King of Spain/overseas Colonial Empire.

    Nice coin! and superb condition.

Popayan and Santiago mint coins, specially those minted under Carlos III are very interesting inasmuch as gold, specially the 8 Escudo coins, are in general much more common that the silver issues.

    Very nice!

Makes me wish I had started collecting Spanish gold instead of Spanish silver many years ago.

    Thanks guys!
Spanish 8 Escudos, are probably the only "large size" AV coins that are affordable, there seem to be thousands avaliable. Higher quality examples are more rare. When compared to AV 5 Guineas/10 Dukaten/10 Zecchini....these are a real bargain!!!! Mat....Cayon offers a wide array of these in their auctions.
