Authenticity of this 1921 Mercury Dime

    I'd believe its a cast copy of an altered 1924. I cannot say that it is a genuine 1924 altered. That does not have the "fabrique" of a genuine coin.

    I agree with the others. The font of "In COD" (and that's what it says, LOL) is wrong and the 2 is wacky. I'm no expert, but I do collect Mercs. This coin is really bad. The letter fonts on the reverse don't look right, either, the bar on the 2nd T in "STATES" is longer on the left side than on the right.

    If it was an altered 1924, I would expect to see tooling marks of some kind near the 2nd "1". I don't see any indication of that. Plus, the 9 is WAY wrong.

    If so, it seems like someone put in a lot of work to make it look like a Chinese fake -- mangling the motto, squashing the stars, distorting the digits...

    "L Pluribus Unum" caught my eye as well as Cod.
