Hi! I have a king george ii halfpenny from 1749 that I want to know if it is authentic or not. I have this question as there are counterfeits of a similar coin that are sold at reenactments and gift shops and collectors should be cautious when buying colonial coins.
It looks fine to me. I'd say if it were counterfeit it'd be a contemporary one so either way it'd be a keeper.
People wouldn't really counterfeit these because they aren't rare or necessarily valuable. I'd say yours is real. If it was a counterfeit, it would most likely be one made back in the 1700s.
Great shape for a coin that old. Wouldn't have the slightest idea what that would grade. Would you care to guess
It does not appear to be a modern fake, and it looks genuine. The one thing to do now is to check the weight to see whether or not it is a contemporary counterfeit. Regal coinage maintain the weight very closely to the tower standard, contemporary counterfeits were usually at least one third or more light weight.
