Hiya everyone. So I have decided to write up another Counterfeit thread. I will link to the others at the bottom of this thread. I'll start by clarifying that I am by no means an expert on this series, I actually don't even own any. Other than the counterfeit I am posting pictures of. The pictures of the authentic coin are courtesy of Heritage Auctions. The coin in this thread will be a 1914 quarter eagle, and IS a counterfeit coin, please feel free to add anything you notice wrong with the coin and feel free to ask questions, as I do have the coin in hand. As silly as it seems, I feel this one WOULD be able to trick someone. (If it weren't for the weird gouge at 6 on teh Obv, and 12 on the REV) These coins look significantly worse in photos and I think if it were sitting in a flip, with a bunch other coins, it would be rather difficult to spot right away. Just my opinion. Several things I notice about the counterfeit are: OBV

Really mushy "Strike"
The obvious gouge/line running parallel with the bottom of the OBV
Missing initials
The color
And of course, the grainy texture result of being cast
REV

The same gouge/line as seen on the OBV
Lack of detail seen all over the eagle, especially on the wings, and head
The weird streaks above the right hand side of the eagle
The grainy texture once again
And also the reeded edge is mushy and inconsistent.
The weight of an authentic Indian head quarter eagle is 4.18 grams and the counterfeit weighs 2.24 grams.
