I have come across some coins my grandad had left me with when he sadly passed away and only this day have decided to look through them. The first coin that struck me was an Austrian Coin dated 1752. The first side has the writing "Franc.D.G.R.I.S A.Ger.Ier.Rex" The second side "Tu .Domine Spes Mea 1752" Its silver and pictures are below. Reverse: The second coin is IDENTICAL, however. It does not appear to have a date on the reverse so I am unsure about it.
Howdy richo - Welcome to teh Forum !! As a keepsake the coin is priceless and I would always keep it were I you. But it is a modern reproduction that has no monetary value.
Welcome Richo!! These coins were given away here in NZ by Readers Digest and are a replica of the Austrian gold ducat. I have one too that I inherited from my Father so I know how you feel about them.
Is It My Imagination? Hmmm, I picked mine up as change in Paris this past Spring. The front (at least to me) looks a little different than the image I see here. Did Readers' Digest produce more than one version? I don't have a magnet around the house, or a scale, so I haven't been able to use those techniques to determine authenticity.
Other than coloring, it is identical in every way to the coin previously posted in this thread. Yours is a modern reproduction as well.
