Hi, This is the reverse of a Ptolemaic not in Svoronos (but can be found in the lesser known Köln collection as Köln-180). It has an A in the reverse left field. A die break made this otherwise pretty rough coin gave the seller the idea to try to fob it off to me as a shark (!!) on the reverse. So, here is my (delayed) shark week coin. Ptolemy IX Soter II (as King of Cyprus: 105/4-89/88 BCE) Cyprus, Uncertain Mint, ca 105/104 - 89/88 BCE Æ Size: 29 mm Weight: 15.33 g OBV: Ammon head facing right. No central depression. Dotted border not visible. REV: Two eagles on thunderbolt facing left, wings closed; In left field: A. Legend to left: ΠΤΟΛ[ΕΜΑΙΟΥ], to right: ΒΑΣΙΛΕ[ΩΣ]. No central depression. Refs: Köln-180; my reference number P-2003-09-29.001 . - Broucheion
A coin that both the specialist and the dilettante can like! Good snag, and funny story about the "shark."
