Augustus Semis from Philippi - Oxen Plowing with Countermark

The capricorn was a symbol of |Augustus| and was probably adopted as a symbol of the city after a Augustan refoundation of the |colonia|. |Howgego| notes that the capricorn countermarks on the colonist plowing types may have indicated a devaluation of the coins."
