Just received my Numismatic Chronicle reprint of Sydenham's "The Coinage of Augustus" from the ever-gracious @jamesicus. Here's one interesting takeaway: a succinct chronology of Augustus's coinage. I don't how or if contemporary scholarship has refined this timeline, but it's probably still broadly accurate, and I found it very interesting for the mint locations: Rome, Gaul, Asia, and then the emergence of Lugdunum late, elevated from a provincial mint to be (the first?) imperial mint. And here is some cast eye candy. Thanks @jamesicus!
