I don't think it's too far. You don't have to love your rivals to play with dignity.

If you don't want someone dunking the ball on the goal post or holding it out as they run into the endzone then don't let them beat you. Celebrating doesn't take away dignity

It will. The same as a speed limit, half the people are going to test it. And if the ones that do aren't kept in check, they begin to think that limits do not apply to them. When that happens, you have the NFL.

It's simple if you don't want them celebrating, don't let them have a reason to celebrate. Sports police themselves. You celebrate to much you get hit a little harder or an ankle twist on the next tackle, or a fast ball in the back, or a fight in hockey ect.

People LOVED the old Avalanche Red Wings series with how much they hated each other, and the Cowboys 49ers in the 1990s. 99 percent of people don't turn on a game or watch one to say "I'm so impressed by their courtesy to each other"

People hate the NFL because sports are supposed to be an escape from everyday life and the nonsense, not something you pay to have it thrown in your face.

Also the decade long of nonsense NFL officiating that protected Brady and Manning with their own rule books. College it going to face backlash in the near future for the same reason with how much influence ESPN has on the playoffs

You don't like the rules, don't play the game. I played, in the 'late 70s and early 80's and those rules were around then, it's not something new.

People playing elite level sports have or SHOULD have thicker skin than the rules allow. You're not getting to the next level if you're crying about sportsmanship in a D1 game

Dude you just don't get it. You can celebrate all you want, do your little dances, spike the ball, throw it in the stands, and stand on your head, whatever, AFTER the game. It's the disruption during the game that the rules apply to.

No I do get it and I get what goes on on the field in elite level sports. People are entitled to their opinions, but the people that want to see emotionless robots to make sure no ones feelings are hurt are the minority.

There's no disruption during a game because someone high steps holding out the ball when they score but that's a penalty and the TD doesn't even count anymore. It takes seconds to dunk a ball. Anyone legitimately upset by game disruptions should be more concerned about TV timeouts.

OK, so let's make a rule that you can do a Billy White Shoes Johnson dance in the end zone. But the guy who does the rebuttal in the other end zone has to top that one. Before long, you have a circus act and a fight, usually in the stands. These antics are all allowed by WWE, they do not belong in Football.

If you don't want people celebrating, don't allow them to do something that gives them a reason too.

They should be able to do a figure skating routine on the way into the endzone and reenact Macbeth once they score if they want too.

If the other team is embarrassed having to watch it than they should work harder to get better or play harder so it doesn't happen again.

As I said elite athletics polices itself on the field athletes understand that, not hope the league makes rules to save their feelings

People who act as you wish, are not elite anything. Sports should be played by disciplined sportsmen, just as the rule is named. As I said WWE will allow your game, play it there.

Athletes get excited. Athletics is a business. A lot understand the showmanship aspect and some just get fired up in the moment and want to make a point.

    Elite athletes police themselves.

If someone enjoys a child's version of the game that is heavily monitored that is certainly their prerogative. Most of us want to see people competing and using things for motivation, not being fragile and getting upset because the player piano isn't showing a black and white hand shake after a score

It's obvious that you've never played the game.

Couldn’t be more wrong about that.

If someone can’t even understand that athletic at elite levels in a business it’s best they stick to high school sports

Uh, guys there was a rule change this year that allows for celebrating after a touch down in the NFL. Even pre planned celebrations are now allowed....sometimes most all the players on the field at the time of the score do a choreographed thing...it takes a few seconds. In most cases there is no celebration or just a simple spike of the ball or some such action.

The Saints are playing with a greatly overrated QB, but the game was stolen from them, nevertheless. The Rams will get the thrashing they deserve.
