Does anyone know what the plan is for what will be next after the ATB Quarter Series is done? The State Quarters were hugely successful, as were the ATB Quarters. I know of 7 kids that got interested in coin collecting in the past YEAR alone due to these series! If anyone at the Mint is reading this, it would be good to do another series that captures the INTEREST of kids and adults alike. That means INTERESTING PICTURES. In other words - no presidents, vice presidents, wives, mistresses or other "Heads". "Heads" do not capture interest, least of all kids' interest. The future of coin collecting is with kids who will turn into adults who then spend a lot of money on the nostalgia of their youth interests. Here's an idea - do State Mammals. It would be interesting. Give States the option to substitute the State Mammal on their coin with a Bird, Fish or other Creature ONLY if another state's coin will be minted earlier with the same or similar mammal (like another breed of horse). The Mint should pick the order of which states go first, second, third, etc., by way of a Random Drawing and make it a BIG EVENT. Maybe even issue the first Quarter of the series to mark the occasion. In addition, involve KIDS in the Random Drawing Event by having KIDS pick the states in The Big Random Drawing Event. Have one kid from every state do a draw. Each State can do a random drawing of all the kids in their state who want to participate, or pick a kid in some other way. It's up to each State to decide how to pick a kid to send to the big U.S. Mint Drawing to determine which State goes first, second, third, etc. Events like this make it into the News, which generates interest. This kind of thing gets kids and parents and grandparents interested. Interest generates all those people spending money, which generates profits for the Mint. (PS - The U.S. Mint should feel free to give a "Hat Tip" for any ideas above that they use. ;) )
