Attica, Athens Tetradrachm: Choosing your devices

  1. The flan size and style tell me they're all intermediate types; minted from approximately 393-260ish BC. But, i'm not sure at which sub-type they fall under within that period. I know Martin has done some write ups in the past and may have some information if he drops by.

    Cleaning: I'm not quite sure I would attempt to. The only thing I would try is soaking in distilled water and maybe using a wood tooth pick to get some of the hard deposits off. Do not use lemon juice. Lemon juice will remove a lot of the patina toning your coin has acquired and give it a splotchy or (if given enough time) a complete bright-white silver look.

    Out of curiosity, you should PM me what a "song" is; if you don't mind. They are beautiful pieces, and like previously mentioned, counter stamps give them character and technically, more historical significance.
