Assembling PF/MS70 set instead of buying a set? Would it hold the same value?

I'm sorry that my post was written to look like a personal attack on you. It was not intended that way.

There have been many posts here in the past belittling other members for wanting their coins slabbed. There are members here that seem to look down their noses at folks that don't have the level of experience, knowledge and confidence that they have and feel that they have to prove that they are somehow superior to others. They tend to offer disdain more than assistance. Those are the members that I was addressing.

Again, I offer my apology for misunderstanding your post.
I also apologize for appearing to direct my anger toward you. It was unwarranted.
    I have deleted the post.

You never have to delete a post because of me sir. I have a thick enough skin. I simply thought you were saying I was being unfair, and I was trying to defend my actions.

I know many here believe in slabs, and I do too in certain circumstances. I simply believe they have a place, and are not always necessary. Yes, that is my point of view. I hope that point of view does not taint the advice I give unfairly, especially towards new collectors.

Btw, the main reason I thought it was directed at me Rick was that it was replying to my post.

I had to take it out because I realized it was really in the wrong place.

It appears that the first two earliest coins may be just plain bullion ASE's while the last one is a proof. This will account for the difference in appearance and quality control.

Is the best way to my own slab and save some money and learn a little more, I should order it directly from the US mint and send it for grading at NGC or PCGS? ALso if I want it to be labeled as "Early release" I have to order my coins early and send it in between timed window dates?

2011 coin couldn't be a proof, it just looks more shiny, it doesn't have the mirror shine to it.

    What do others think?

Yes, to have "Early Release" it must be received by the TPG by a specific date. I would refer you to them for the times needed.

If you want a 70, you are taking a risk if you buy from the mint your coin will grade 70 when you send it in. WHat if it comes back a 69? If you wanted a 69 set instead, I would say always buy in the aftermarket since they price them just to get rid of them since they are hoping for 70's.

I'm familiar w/ two Mint early releases - 2009 American Gold Eagle Ultra High Relief and the ASE 25th anniversary early release coins. To qualify for early release designation from the graders the coins need to shipped
to the graders in unopened boxes from the mint within a set period of time.

I believe sir the unopened boxes was only because some coins of the 25th Anniversary set were available separately. Normally I do not believe it matters if the box is opened or not.

I am not a TPG expert, :), so if I am incorrect someone please correct me.

The current anniversary ASE two coin set does not need to be shipped in an unopened box.

If the submission is after the 30 day cut off, the box has to be sent in unopen to get a first Strike or Early Release lable. Otherwise people could repack any coin into the box to qualify.

I ordered "2012 American Eagle San Francisco Two-Coin Silver Proof Set" on 7/5/12, last day of the sale, ship date for my order is set to be in October 2012. Is it safe to say that if I sent it in to TPG that the coin will not be label as early release? But would it still be possible that I can get pf70 quality coins?

Also, do I send in the coins to TPG myself after I recieved it from the us mint? Or is there an option from the us mint to request to have my purchase sent to a TPG of my choice to have graded before I receive the set?

Let me know if I calculate the cost of grading correctly?
If I were to use PCGS fee schedule.
Which service do I use, it seems like the set would qualify for "Modern, Econmy, and Regular" service?
I see a fee for "First Stike", but early release are first strike coins?
No 5 coin minimum like NGC.
Is there a Fee for to designate "Early Release"?
Are there additional fees for the slab holder and to shipping/insurance back to me?

I would guess you may be out of luck getting an Early Release or First Strike lable. However, the 30 day count down doesn't start until the mint actually begins it's first shipment. So if they hold to the July 27th shipping and you get a post mark of August 26th on it, you would still qualify. The mint will not ship direct to anyone else but the purchaser. They are not going to get involved in third party disputes over delivery. Sometimes the TPG's create a special price on new releases. (ATB's for instance.) But yes, you will need to pay extra for the First Strike lable. Call the TPG and hear it directly from them. They will walk you through it so there are no mistakes and they will clarify charges.
