@LaCointessa Thanks I'll have to dig them out of the closet. It'd be neat to have an old ham radio, thats very cool. I have a hand held scanner and like to listen to the ham radio guys sometimes.
Yes, @randygeki, I love the way they speak, somewhere between an air traffic controller and a CB radio user. Remember CB radios? So fun to use a radio like that while in the car. I remember riding around with my aunt whose handle was “One little red wagon.” We had a ball and beat lots of speed traps! May she rest in peace.
qua ck medical device that can cause serious harm. First is another quack medical device, Faradic Therapy device, capable of causing serious harm. Next is a Philico Tranistone radio and Westhouse radio. Both radios need the capacitors replaced and the Philco needs replacement bakelite knobs. I liberated the Philco from an attic where the temperature would routinely reach >100degrees. Excessive heat kills Bakelite.
I have been a stamp collector for 20 plus years. i also collect sports collectables. IE: cards hats jerseys, books, autographs. l also love antiques and art work. i also have some collectable guitars. This all can hold and lose your interest at the same time! Smiles!
I also have a collection of little vintage prayer cards with saints on them. They are tiny little works of art. I was just looking at them the other day to see if i had a St. Helena. I did not, unfortunately.
Okydoky. These are just a small number of them; but, I hope you will understand why I enjoyed collecting them. I want to tell you something @midas1. It is sort of strange. And I want to thank you for something, too. Last week I pulled out my prayer card collection and looked carefully for a St. Helena card because I was working on a poem about her. I have many prayer cards and figured I should have a Helena card; but, it has been years - maybe twenty - since I have even touched them so I couldn’t remember. I looked at all the cards and I did not see one for her. I put them away in their place. It was only because you mentioned on this thread that you would like to see my cards that I went back to the prayer card collection to take a few photographs to show you. When I took them out of the envelope and selected a few to shoot — BLAM!!— there she was! St. Helena, carrying this big heavy wooden cross just as I expected her to be doing when I looked for her last week! She is the card below. She looks a bit bent and weathered, but at least I have her and I am very pleased! So thank you @midas1 for asking to see the cards. On the reverse of this card she is called St. Elena as she sometimes is and there is a special prayer.
Wait. Now I am really freaking out! There is a Roman soldier on a horse with a halo in one of my cards. I do not know what saint that could be. The card has no identification on it at all. The only Roman soldier type I know who became a saint was Constantine, Helena‘s precious son! Could this be St. Constantine? Was there any other Roman soldier who became a saint?
"Okydoky. These are just a small number of them; but, I hope you will understand why I enjoyed collecting them." Yes, they are beautiful. How large are they? I'm happy you found the St. Helena card. Off topic but somehow related: I'm currently reading The Templars by Dan Jones it describes how/why the Order was formed and what they accomplished and why they were eradicated. It begins around 1102 with references to the 11th century. The author does an excellent job of fleshing out the characters, intricate politics, battles, Islam and their leaders. etc. Lots of maps and footnotes. Highly recommended for anyone interested in the early Church, Crusades, the Holy Land, etc.
If you spend some time w/ Google I think you'll find the answer. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_saint
There are various sizes, @midas1. The smallest are 2” x 1”. the majority of them are 3” x 2”, and I have about a dozen that are 4” x 3”.
Oh yes, @midas1! I certainly would have gone to Google. But thanks for the link. There is one on that site on a horse handing cloak like in my card but looks female with a male name. I will go see what I find. Thanks again.
