Other hobbies? Would like to get back into boating or maybe jet skis when I get back to the States. Lifting weights and reading are other things I like doing.
and i guess we are all into photography of some degree. a marriage of necessity if we're to post pics of our coins and stuff><
Oh boy. I haven't taken most of this stuff out in 5 years. This thread may take my mind off Ancients for a while and start investing in lapidary equipment again. I have a 2000-3000 football and basketball card collection. The nicer of which are in a safe deposit and not photographed. Maybe later. I collect minerals and fossils. These are a few I had laying around. I made the cabochons to the right. Small piece of red beryl (bixbite) in the matrix with black quartz that I carry with me daily. I used to make jewelry, but since I no longer have lapidary equipment, I simply buy fine jewelry for the Misses (I seem to like the rings more than she does, of the 100+, she probably wears 5-10 of them. Here are a few I've made or was in the process of making (I didn't make the Marcus Aurelius, but isn't he nice looking?)) This was her ring collection as of 5ish years ago These are some of the gemstones I have left over or am collecting. All the stones in the middle are screw ups that I saved. Faceting can be tricky. The two larger ones have been radiated. The smaller bi-color rectangle cut is natural yellow-green citrine. The small trillion cut in front is Paraiba Tourmaline. I also have a small assortment of about 10-15 automatic knives, including side opening and Microtech OTF; but that probably doesn't interest you guys. I had fun photographing all these; strolling down memory lane. -Michael
I wish I had a telescope like that! I've had lots of hobbies, but I guess the ones I'm still active in is gaming, I have a lot of Fallout merch. I'm into survival and bushcraft right now, even made some youtube videos. I'm passively collection fossils, minerals and meteorites.
Fallout is great, though the last one didn't live up to my expectations. Skyrim did. Many, many hours of fun there. It is difficult to find time to game with little kids though
Model railroad, which is quite threatening to become a major hobby with the freeing up of more space within my domain. Already have one western USA set up but want another with an E. Europe set up.
For quite a few years I collected 18th and 19th century sterling and coin silver pocket knives. I believe there are about 150 in the collection, but haven't added any for a couple of years. Other than that my hobbies are gardening (vegetables and flowers) and a small orchard with about a dozen fruit and nut trees. I also own an antique tractor and perform all of the required maintenance to keep it running. At one time building dry stone walls was a hobby of mine, but age has put the cabosh on that. The wife and I walk trails everywhere we travel.
Sweet => iamtiberius => those are awesome Sports Cards (very cool ... I have the hockey-side of that hobby) Does music count? ... ummm sadly, I'm sure that I have close to 1000 old vinyl albums, 100 tapes and over 2000 CDs ... but those were merely collected through my lifetime (never thought of it as a hobby) ... great that technology caught up to me, but now everybody can listen to the tunes that I probably paid over $50,000 for!! .....
I played Poker almost every week before moving down south (south of Charlotte) no limit hold em. I play only when near a casino nowadays or when Im back home up north visiting. Im probably one of the few Ancient coin dealers that prefer no limit cash. its a conservative crowd although I know one well known dealer who plays in the WSOP every year which is waaaaaay out of my budget. .....I also like historical fiction books, and creating fantasy coins which I havent been able to do in a while... I need a new crucible!
I collect banknotes , especially greek ones, but I collect other world notes too. and the bigger the better. I spend 3 hours a day walking my dog off lease , she never gets tired, although she is eighter chasing birds, or playing with other dogs. Also like to collect antique 16th - 17th Century glass , pictures from my exposition in our local museum.
