Thanks @Hommer! I also ended up a structural engineer (designing bridges) but I started my college years studying architecture and I will always have a great love of design. My favorite architect is also a structural engineer; Santiago Calatrava. He also designs a lot of bridges. One of Calatrava's bridges. One of mine. Hmmm... it's not the size that matters right? It's the... umm... dang he has way cooler bridges than me.
My first attempt @ making hard cider, I thought I had to add a cup of sugar to the batch (1 gallon). Was very hard cider lol
Have no idea what this entails, but I have a vision of my son when he was 2 or 3, fishing in the toilet with one of those plastic poles with a magnet on the line for a fish with one his lips.
Collected Cal Ripken cards back in the day. I have 1500+ different, nothing added since 2001. It just got out of hand!!
Hmmm, let's see which one survives 200 years! In my humble experience for design-work, sometimes simple is best. K.I.S.S.
Thank you for the compliment @tibor Haha yes I'm going to go with that! Thanks for the assist IMP Alegandron My concrete bridges are typically designed for a minimum 80 years service life with minimal maintenance so that's a great point. I wonder how much the upkeep on Calatrava's bridge is.
My life-long hobby/pursuit has been Calligraphy. I am a little "long in the tooth" to produce top-notch renditions these days though.
Doug, That is an awesome meteorite! Which one is it? I have a small piece of an unclassified meteorite and it's the coolest thing! Erin
Beautiful calligraphy. But I find myself wondering how many schoolkids these days could read it. Penmanship is not taught at all and I have found students who complained that they could not read my cursive notes written on the board. My efforts don't compare to yours but they are very legible for people of out generation.
It is a Sikhote Alin. These come in two types regmaglypted and shrapnel. This one shows the two type characteristics on opposite sides probably meaning it was a larger individual that broke on impact.
My astronomy obcession is thriving. I disassembled by 4.5 inch dobsonian and realigned the secondary mirror which came from the factory in such a way that I could not get a perfect collimation...and now it is spot on. I also upgraded my finder to a green laser. And I bought these yesterday for those weekday nights when I want to do a little star gazing but don't want to set the telescope out. They arrive on Monday and I will take pics then. Believe me, when you have work the next day and have to get up early, setting a telescope is not always convenient as one doesn't always have the time to set it up and take it down (especially when your targets that night won't be at perfect viewing positions until quite late). A good 7x50 wide field binoculars is perfect for those occasions. I think I'll leave the telescope for Friday and Saturday evenings, and holidays, and use these puppies for my weeknight stargazing fix.
