China, Kwang-Tung Province, Y#201 , 20 cents denomination, .800 silver I have a bad feeling about this coin being fake. wait for more opinions...
Republic of China, looks like KM#678 Dollar denomination, This coins detail looks all wrong and very fake looking. wait for more opinions on this coin...
If I were you I would not buy anymore coins from China until you can spot if they look authentic or buy from a very reputable coin dealer. I would hate to see you get burned on paying to much for a fake coins from China.
Welcome to Coin Talk. Here is a good site I use to find coins I can not read. go to bottom of page and click on Click Here To View All. http://worldcoingallery.com/countries/China2.php
"明治二十五年" is the date of this 5 Yen coin, which means "Meiji Year 25 or 1950. That coin is the old style with the "Kaisho" lettering and has a mintage of 181,824,000.
Thanks for your replies! I found these as part of a coin lot. Some of the ones you guys pointed out as possibly being fake I can see that. The color and details of the coins just look a little weird.. thanks for helping to identify these and will check that website for future chinese coins!
This coin is Shōwa Year 25 (Kanji:昭和= Shōwa). The kanji in your reply is the one for Emperor Meiji, though. The Emperor Meiji (Mutsuhito) died in 1912.
Yes, that is correct. I remember rushing this post in the morning and worrying that I overlooked something. That will teach me! The Kanji on the coin is for Showa 昭和, not for Meiji 明治. The coin has a date of 昭和二十五年 or Showa 25 or 1950. I have been looking at a lot of Meiji-era coins recently and apparently have Meiji on the mind.
