Your preference of one over the other and why?

I have some generic rounds. Was thinking about the ASE and trying to decide if the higher cost of an ASE is worth it and why.

At the time to sell ASEs are easier to sell and are more recognized so will sell for slightly over spot.
U.S. govt backed silver is also legal tender which helps when moving from one country to another.

    other than the above ..

Depends of "why" you want to collect one over the other.

I use it for wealth building. In which ASEs hold a favor to credit institutions of you leverage your assets for improved credit worthiness or other things. They don't seem to like generic silver as one has to verify it's authenticity more readily.

If you are all about flipping, then generic all the way.
you can coin roll hunt too to get 40% & 90% silver and flip those for silver content.

    So .. it all depends.

This is something you need to decide for yourself as the fact is one can make a perfectly fine and reasonable case for either. That said, a big part of one's decision should depend on what avenues they have to liquidate. ASEs or other forms of government issued bullion are often much easier to sell to individuals than generics are, but if likely selling to one who deals in metals, it's not likely to matter as much. Another consideration should be the price to acquire. While you're usually going to pay more for ASEs and get more on the back end, this doesn't necessarily mean them a better choice overall. Consider average/likely buy/sell premiums and go from there, but do keep in mind there are no absolutes in this respect.

ASE's if you can sell to consumers later on (if you ever want to sell them, your choice). Generics if you sell to dealers. Dealers will usually buy back generics at spot and ASE's at $1.50 over spot. You can get generics online for $.79 over spot.

Here is the risk factor: down the line, with rounds, you have to convince a skeptical buyer that the item's not plated, not Chinese, and/or not made out of melted pop-tops.

In normal times, this is hard enough. In a crisis, it's an excuse to gouge you. But yes, there are Chinese ASEs too. I've traded away nearly all my non-90% now, and a very good start on the foreign silver; I sold my $1 Mint products for 1.5x spot and glad they're gone. Yes, I checked for "rarities" first.
