One thing I learned long ago working with Paper Money..is to do your home work.

I was hoping to read that you went a few steps beyond gathering local estimates and actually research the note, by finding out when other occurrence's have shown up in Small Size Notes of different Series.

Had you done this and discovered the Rarity Factor of "R6" perhaps you would have invested the small $$ amount to have it Graded by PCGS or PMG and then place it at auction in one of the major auction houses like Heritage or Stack's...

In Dr. Bart's Book Paper Money Error's, you will find reference to notes found just like this one, occurring on earlier Series, that sold up toward $1000 in Fine!

One of the things that really bothers me these days is folk's concern with the almighty dollar! What you had was something very special! Now the other person has this and will again turn another profit when re-selling.

Moral of the story is "always know what you have, be steadfast , learn, prepare and then profit! I normally stay out of these situations until it has concluded as this deal has now done. Based on previous history....people always express the obsessive need for profit instead of appreciating the note for what it is and how it originated.
Just think how many people had this in their hands and knew nothing of what they had! In better condition the $$$ goes up quickly.

As long as you are happy with your gain, you have no reason to regret the sell except for studying what you had a little better!

    Congrats!!

I agree I could have. however, I normally just research about different error coins. that's where I focus my efforts and try to profit from. the ones are more for when they can not give me boxes I look for the fancy serials and star notes. this was a dumb luck fluke. it had been sitting on my shelf for months. and I by chance happened to see it (the sn). I have no knowledge of note errors. didn't have any interest....until now :) I will remember that for next time though. ty

Yes indeed...only 1 of the 3 little Pigs built a "Brick House"
In most situations like this due to the "Rarity of this Note" there may not be a "next time"

I just threw 80 out as a high end number being found. Last time we had this conversation about amount known approximately 3-4 months ago Numbers stated their was somewhere between 60-75.

For the duration these have been in circulation now (about 4 years) i'd suspect not very many will turn up new to the market for the foreseeable future.

i have found a couple semi rare Lincoln ddo's, and then there was the 95 ddo i sold for $50 that was super shiny and i should have had graded. a 71 p 001 xf- that might have graded au? i don't know. the box of nickels i got that had 5 v nickels about 7 silver, and over to buffalo. 25 s, 28 s, 13 variety 1. one of the 1883 v nickels was about xf if not better. so with the amount that i go through (7-10) boxes weekly. there will ALWAYS be a next time. it just may not be anywhere close to this. but lightning could strike. only time will tell

as i stated in a previous post. i normally don't do bills. its a back up plan to look for fancy serials and stars. this was on my shelf for the last 3 months and i almost sold it in a lot of 20 stars for $25. ($5 profit before ebay fees) so the fact that fate would have it i put it aside is amazing.

as far as the bill being sold...well it's not paid yet....so i might still be able to follow your advice. that will depend on if he pays or not.

one thing i am confused about...i am not sure if your post after the fact is hurtful or helpful? i understand that it can get chaotic at times in threads but if you felt i was making a mistake, and you wanted me to make the right one you could have PM'ed me as someone else did. originally i had it up for a start 19.99 auction. i was advised that i should take the auction down and do the $800 BIN or BO. if you would have suggested this earlier, i might have gone the correct route and we all could have seen this turn out on a greater level

As I mentioned, I do not get involved in things like this for anyone. My opinion is simply that and my experience is simply my experience, nothing more....It is not my responsibility to protect, correct, advise, suggest, direct or otherwise influence you in your business transactions whatsoever and in any capacity.

I also did not say you were making a mistake, I said if you were happy with the sale, then there was no need for any regrets.
It is not my place to save you from your own actions, most are grateful for others staying out of their business..this is the first time I have ever had anyone say if I wanted to prevent them from a mistake than I should have PM'd you..I do not think so.

My wish for you has occurred, you are now more knowledgeable on this subject..take $25 of your profit and buy the book so you will be better educated if you happen to get so lucky again.

Best regards and luck to you...
