Minor varieties not only can offer interested collectors a low dollar hobby, but also the chance to enter into a more advanced area where skill and study play large parts. These, imo, aren't bad things, certainly are not hurting anyone, and should be viewed as good and beneficial, but as with everything it seems, perhaps your issue is more with the misrepresentation that unfortunately comes with the territory.
