I think the Sacs had the best looking eagle than many other coins. Does anyone have trouble with them tarnishing? Because they're brass plated------whoops, duh....clad, awww what's the difference.
I agree, I really like the eagle design. And yes, they tarnish very easily. I kept a few, namely 2000D Uncirculated, 2001 P+D uncirculated, and a 2005D uncirculated in vacuum packaging.
The GREAT thing about all the negative response to these coins is that they will eventually completely fall out of use and favor. At some point much of the coins will be removed from circulation and the metal will be melted for some other use. Those mintage numbers won't mean squat then, just a bunch of statistics to reflect on what once was and what may remain. The people who collected and coveted their dollars, graded, rolled, hoarded from circulation or whatever, will someday have something less common and future generations may find them of interest, call them collectible and create a sense of need to seek them out. The worthless metal they are made of won't much matter the way old silver, gold and bronze or copper does, but if collectors exists and demand them, there will exist a framework of value currently non-existent.
It is an old thread and no reason to really debate the original posters. The new question is about toning on them - and that I do know the answer to. None in my sets have started toning - at least at last peak.
No debate really, it was more of a statement to ponder on the nature of collecting, value and the way perceptions change. I'm still new on CT and reading up. I'm new to this thread and it's still an open thread. It doesn't have an expiry date. I guess the ghost of negativity lives on in this thread, just as the initial posters debated. It's also no debate nor news that these dollars, if not hermetically sealed in a slab or proof set, tones in short order. Some desire it others don't, collectors we are all. Thanks.
Keep some Use some I hope keeping a few of All Small Dollars may be of interest to future collectors. Here's my newest favorite SAC. But I've been spending off my others.
this years Sacagawea dollars will be worth something someday i think. it wont be made agine so i think its worth getting acouple of rolls and putting them up.
