If I were in the market for this type, I would look to pay $15-$20 for a coin in this condition. Perhaps $25 max. But then again, I am known as the forum's cheapskate.
it's worth what you're happy paying H. it's a fantastic coin, has great detail. I would say that price is not ridiculously high. enjoy your coin.
Hello again. Would anyone tell me?: is the man in left the son and heir of Manuel Komnenos?: http://www.ma-shops.com/loebbers/item.php5?lang=en&id=140604032 I am 90% sure, but want to be 100%.
H, i'm not sure that coin isn't alexius iii instead. i have a very simliar coin attributed thus. reverse depicting alexius iii and st. constantine
Thank you for pointing it out. Very strange. - How about this: http://www.ma-shops.com/loebbers/item.php5?lang=en&id=140604030 Is it also Alexios iii, and not Manual as the seller claims?
im not sure herberto, and i'm not absolutely positive about your other coin being alex iii...but i think it is. please get a second opinion.
Your assumption is valid. – In his own homepage he has written about that coin ”Billon-Aspron-Trachy. bestimmung unsicher” The two last words mean ”deciding unsure”. -
Hello again, as i don't want to create a new thread. I wonder, is this coin for 11 euro Justinian? can we be 100% sure?: Because the seller has labelled that coin as "unknown emperor": http://www.ma-shops.com/fruehwald/item.php5?lang=en&id=2018
Well, as the legend reads IVSTINIANVS, I would say you are correct. But these coins can be found in higher grades for not too much more money. It's up to you.
No, i did not intend to purchase it as I already have one - I was just wondering how a numismatic seller could not know it was Justinian despite the legend is clearly.
John, would you mind if I asked?: I just price checked the price in ma-shop, vcoins, and furthermore I also checked the list of sold Justian in Ebay and HA. I can’t find some with similar prices as they are all higher, at least those with a decent grade. – So how do you find some with higher grade for “not to much more money” ? Private sellers on ebay?
Here's a page of folles and half-folles at vcoins... Justinian I suppose I should have qualified "not too much more," but there are some nice coins there for under 50 euro. The coin at ma-shops looks corroded to me, and I dislike corrosion. I prefer honest wear to bad surfaces (sometimes...don't quote me on it).
Hello again everybody. This is a completely new topic I am bringing now. In order to preserve my ancient coins I am wondering whether I should buy an acid-free coin tray or acid-free Hartbarger Coin Holders self-adhesive? I prefer the last, but I am wondering: I am certainly not going to reopen the coinholders again once I have closed it. – It is very likely that the coins would be there for perhaps for 20-30-40-50 years. But I recently have read that a long time contact with that plastic could damage the coins, even if it is acid-free. Is that true? How about solidus or perhaps a silver coin, is it okay to come in contact with that plastic for a long time? Some coins are curve like a plate, like that one from chrsmat71, would they fit in a coinholders? I think I did read in a debate where some asserted that the glue in the self-adhesive coinholders would damage the coins and thus the coinholders using the staple to close it, is the best way. – other source claims it is best to use self-adhesive as it keep the air out completely. – What is true? I hope for answer so I can decide whether to order a coin tray or coin holders for my follies, and certainly also tremissis and solidus.
I use 2x2 non-PVC flips. I don't like my coins sealed permanently in plastic - any kind of plastic. I prefer to be able to take them out easily, and hold them whenever I wish.
I agree with both of JA's posts but go one further. For years I used open trays but changed to paper envelopes to make it easier to package my hoard off to a dealer when the time comes. Storage methods that seem great for 30 coins get cumbersome for 300 coins and ridiculous for 3000. They say some plastics are safe but I am not a fan. Maybe after 50 more years I'll have a different opinion on the matter???
Hello folks I have a look on 1 tremissis and 3 solidus in which I want to purchase the tremissis and one of the solidus, and I have crosschecked the prices from ma-shop, v-coins, ebay and HA. – But I still want some recommendation from you if one has time and energy to it. I am buying it from a numismatic store (or perhaps from a well-known auction house), and not from the flea market. So take the price in that context. First about a tremissis for 258 Euro I intend to purchase from MA-shop. I found a store in Denmark to see the tremissis he had, but taking the price and grade I decided to drop it and focus on MA-shop instead. At V-coins the cheapest one is 295USD with a similar grade, however in ebay and HA one could find some similar for the price between 173-200. In any case, I intend to buy it, and if any has an objection, then please say it: http://www.ma-shops.com/gin/item.php5?lang=en&id=117 I assume the price is fair. In the case of Solidus, I have 3 choices: A Justian for 320Euro http://www.ma-shops.com/cheilan/item.php5?lang=en&id=4825 However, there is a well-known auction house in Denmark in which they sell: Anastasius l for 400 euro: http://www.bruun-rasmussen.dk/search.do?pg=1&q=byzans&iid=300740919&mode=detail Constantine VII with Romanus for 400 Euro: http://www.bruun-rasmussen.dk/search.do?pg=1&q=byzans&iid=300740981&mode=detail Even if I have to pay the fee of 25% as Buyer’s premium, the price still would be lower when compared to Ma-shops, V-coins and even Ebay. My first choice is that Justian for 320Euro, but If you think I can get more for the money for the Anastasius or Constanstine VII, then I would give it a try.
