PCGS leaves them in the original holders, but they encapsulate the entire holder. I've only seen pictures, but it looks like it becomes to big to store in the OGP. GSA Morgans carry a slight premium over their non-GSA brethren. The 82, 83 and 84 CC's in GSA holders are as common as a ASE (American Silver Eagle). The rare dates are 1879, 1890, 1891 & 1892. The 1878, 1880, 1881 & 1885 are in the middle. there has been one 1893 GSA reported. Simple answer to your question, yes, the GSA Morgan is highly valued.
They do now. They never used to. According to the link Books posted, they started encapsulating the entire GSA holder this year.
I knew they started this year. I've seen some on eBay. I don't like the fact they put the GSA Holder in a holder. If it goes to CAC, will they put it in a holder too? J/K.
I've always liked how NGC labels the GSA holder around the bottom. When people ask me who the better TPG is to send in the GSA holdered Morgans, I always tell them if they really need to submit them send them to NGC because PCGS removes the coin from the GSA holder and slabs it in their holder and mark the label GSA HOARD.
BU, I own a 80/79 Rev. of '78 MS65 in a PCGS holder that does indeed say GSA Hoard. I wish it were still in the OGP. I'm partial to how NGC did it as well. I'm sure now that PCGS is grading the coins still in the holder, eventhough they put the entire GSA in another holder, there will be a lot of people sending them to PCGS. Here's an example i just found on eBay:
I was reading on pcgs you can opt out Of having the holder holdered. They will just sticker the GSA holder like ngc does. Saves you $10 that way too. Otherwise they charge $10 for the oversized holder Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Agreed. Personally, I feel the new PCGS holders add a level of security not present with NGC or ANACS stickers, but to each his own. I believe you are mistaken, sir. Unless I've missed something, it is either the new holder-holder or the older style "GSA Hoard" label in a normal slab. Even with crossovers (discussed in the link I earlier posted), PCGS will not remove NGC/ANACS stickers, but will open the original packaging, discard, and place in their standard holder.
Yes I just reread it and I was wrong. I misinterpreted it. The $10 is for their holder and the non $10 is for a standard slab labeled GSA hoard. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I was only posting what I understand their present policies to be, so you've nothing to be sorry for.
From the link you posted: Please follow these instructions when submitting these coins to PCGS: Submit coins in the original, hard case GSA holder. Select the Standard Service (Secure Service not available). Select "Grading" for the Type of Submission. Select Service Level (coins can be submitted under Economy tier or higher). Mark the "Other" box and list GSA Oversized holder (there is a $10 fee per coin for GSA coins encapsulated in the five-ounce oversized holder). Coins requiring the five-ounce oversized holder must be submitted separately from standard size holder coin submissions. So would that mean you have a choice to get the oversized holder? And if you opt not to, does PCGS remove the coin from the GSA holder and slab it, like they've always done?
Yeah that's the way I read it the second time. That they remove the coin and sticker it as GSA hoard Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
