Are Great Collection’s IMAGES Adequate for both Buyer and Seller?

That could be one compromise where they make an effort to include a more glorified photo. Still, it would come down to if the cost is worth the benefit (and outweighs potential issues like more returns).

For coins that have a TrueView, I don't see why people can't just have the PCGS website open and look up the photo there. It's a quick copy paste of the cert number (or type it in). I do this with quite a few listings per week and it doesn't take that much time. Plus the cert page has information that can be useful (like recent auction results).

He likely means that when he see the Great Southern Coins logo (they use it in all of their eBay listings), he scrolls right by those.

Great Collections (GC) and Great Southern Coins are completely different. Great Collections is an honest auction house that I (and many others) would recommend using. Great Southern Coins is an eBay seller with some questionable practices and I would recommend being cautious if bidding.

I knew that. But cooking photogs is deception, in any book, and if GC is using questionable 'fill lighting' I'm out......

People that return a lot will do that regardless and realistically the vast majority its better to just cut off if that happens. It is a business where their clients are the consignors.

One of the biggest draws to them and why so many love them for consignors is to not have to deal with the return nonsense. I know a bunch of people have basically stopped using eBay because of that and love GC to avoid that.

I'd highly recommend them on both sides but I wouldnt want any venue to start tailoring policies around what would turn into a lot of problem buyers.

They could, but that would just slow down the searches for them which they would miss things and sellers get lower prices. There really doesn't seem to be any downside simply including it

You have to learn how to understand GC photos by winning a few auctions. The coins luster does not show in their photos. Some good coins can be purchased from their not so good photos. At times the photos appear to have the quality of scans.

The "fill lighting" was used by the eBay seller who the original poster bought from not GC (that's what the first post says). GC does not cook photos and no one has made that claim. In fact, people complain that GC doesn't "enhance" their photos to the level of TrueViews (which I'm against since TrueViews tend to be too optimistic in a number of cases).

Policies have to be tailored for what's best for business while still being ethical. As some eBay sellers have proven, you can get higher bids by juicing photos. That is unethical. Using just TrueViews is fine and can also lead to higher bids but you will get a higher percentage of people that are unhappy. Is it enough to increase the cost of business (with too many returns)? I don't have the stats but GC must think it would hurt them more than it would help. They keep seeing more clients and more strong results (especially on toners), so it appears they are perfectly happy with the current state of their photos.

And it really doesn't slow down your searches to look up coins on the PCGS website. Most coins you don't have to do it. For the more expensive ones, it is just part of standard due diligence in bidding.

I didn't say you said that; I said that using just TrueViews is fine and can also lead to higher bids but you will get a higher percentage of people that are unhappy.

The same would apply if the photo style changed to something similar to TrueViews.

Including TrueViews with the current GC photos would be the least problematic but GC still has some internal reasoning for not wanting to do that (likely in part because the moment they include those photos, it is part of their listing and can be a reason for returns).

Your suggestion is fine but I'll trust GC over all of our suggestions. There's plenty of things that can be changed but GC has their reasoning and it works for them. Their business is booming and they seem perfectly content to let things stay as-is for the time.
