Another thing about that coin, when in hand, take a look at those green patches. Looks kinda like BD from the photo.
I noticed it as well. More than a few coins I've purchased had what looked like it could be BD. I've treated these coins and I may do the same to this one.
Atta-boy ... some cool lookin' coins, Gil-galad!! :thumb: => of course, I really like the she-wolf animal coin!!
Thanks a lot guys. I can't wait until I get these coins in the mail. The lot will probably take longer because it's coming from the U.K.. It's unlikely I'm going to get this many coins at once again. That's going to be a total of 22 coins that I get to attribute and catalog, integrate them into my collection. Fun times are coming! (assuming that they all arrive safely).
very nice group of coins Gil, we have a large show coming in two weeks, i'll be going through all the bins i can, keep them coming, we love them...:thumb:
Thanks Eng. Oh yeah, I bet it is fun. No shops around here or even close have ancients where I can look through bins. This one places has maybe 5-6, more expensive than what they should be and of course I ain't purchasing them. They wouldn't haggle either. lol I just got confirmation that these orders shipped and on their way. I'm stoked and can't wait! It's going to be fun.
That is exactly why ancient coin collecting never used to be very popular. ALmost no local shops carried anything. This is why the internet has been such a great boon to our area of the hobby more than other areas I would argue. That, and we can find like minded souls to chat about ancients as well.
The couple of shops closest to me unfortunately don't have ancient coins. But at least there are a couple dealers at the local monthly coin show that do sell them, so I'm not totally out of luck.
i agree Medman. The internet gives us a place to hunt for the coins we wwant, plus it gives us a place to talk with kindred souls. Up till I discovered these forums, I thought I was alone on a planet of beings who couldn't care less about my hobby. I love you guys (even Jerry).
There's something about collecting coins that requires a certain amount of camaraderie. Other activities don't seem to necessitate it, at least for me. I'm an avid reader, but I don't feel the need to belong to any book clubs for instance. I could go to a number of forums that concentrate on my profession, but I find them tedious and boring. I have certain political and religious leanings, but have absolutely no desire to discuss them at length - with anyone. For some reason though, numismatics is a different thing altogether. Oh, and I don't facebook either. I tried it for a few months, and got inundated with messages about how my friends were walking their dog and eating lunch. Seriously, who cares???????
My Momma, God rest her soul, always said never discuss religion or poliitics or you will lose friends. So, I mainly have followed her direction.. And on those occasions where I have strayed and did discuss one of these, I did lose friends. Now coins on the other hand......
You all will have to overlook my poor typing. My computer crashed last night (with all my coin files) and I'm using my tablet which I hate for communications. Keep your fingers crossed that I will be able to recover my computer files, otherwise I will be spending days trying to regenerate my spreadsheet catalog. What a pain that will be.
So true. I usually don't discuss politics either. I think it's really ridiculous that some people will befriend you for a different opinion, won't talk to you again, etc. I know this one lady here in town that wouldn't give a kid any Halloween candy just because he said he liked Obama. It's how sensitive these subjects are. Unfortunately, numismatics can branch into politics easily and I've seen it happen before. Ancients, less so than modern coins but it can happen. But I am glad that Bing here introduced me to ancient coins. I'm pretty sure I'll never collect moderns again.
If need be, get another laptop/desktop PC and pull the drive out of that one and place it in a USB enclosure and transfer the files out. I've done that more than a few times.
The answer to that question is not sso easy. Yes and No. I have most all my coins on this and Forum galleries, and my spreadsheett I backed up about 6 weeks ago on a separate hard drive. But anything since then will be lost. Things like seller, addresses, purchase price and shipment cost I maintained only on this computer. Plus there are some family pictures and reference files that will be lost as well. For work, I have some emails that I do not believe I will be able to recover either. I have a local computer whiz coming by this afternoon to see what he can do
Those files should be on that drive unless the drive is shot. You can still do data recovery if you know how. Maybe your friend can help you out. Hopefully, he can fix it and get you operational again with that PC.
