<p>[QUOTE=&quot;RyanL, post: 1282700, member: 28774&quot;]Hey all.&nbsp; I&#039;m enjoying collecting quite a lot, but unfortunately my wife and kids don&#039;t share my enthusiasm so I&#039;m glad at least there is a place to go talk about our collections!</p><p><br /></p><p>I started out working on the 7070 type set, and I&#039;m really close...only needing a Trade Dollar and one more Seated Dollar which I WILL get before the end of the year since finishing the 7070 in one year with all coins graded VG or better was my original goal.&nbsp; Of course as I progressed it kind of changed to VF or better but I&#039;ll settle for some VG&#039;s for now.&nbsp; I&#039;ve gotten some really good deals along the way, taking my time and cherry picking some.&nbsp; Some of my favorites I am posting in the &quot;grade my coin&quot; section of the forum to see how well I did.&nbsp; As I approach the end of the U.S type set, I am thinking about where to go next.&nbsp; Possibly start working on the gold types, expanding the regular type set going back to the flowing hair, etc.&nbsp; The Barber Types are really eye appealing to me, fairly accessible and look like fun.&nbsp; I think about going after some key dates of other types, I&#039;m still undecided.&nbsp; I&#039;m not too keen on the 1909s VDB cent because it seems there are so many of them for the price they are.&nbsp; I really like rare types such as the Seated Dollar and 20 cent pieces, Draped bust in eye apealing condition.&nbsp; At this point I think I will focus on graded coins, though because the coins I look at are generally in the $100 and up price range now, whereas I started out buying a lot of coins in the $5-$20 range.&nbsp; I sold almost all my duplicate lesser graded types to upgrade some of my type set, and kept most of the VF and above coins I have.&nbsp; I also purchase a bit of bullion in the form of coin silver, and especially like it when I can grab some VG graded barbers, UNC Washingtons, SLQ&#039;s, Peace UNC&#039;s and Morgan Dollar UNC&#039;s at or near spot prices, which I do from time to time out of the dealer&#039;s boxes.</p><p><br /></p><p>So I guess I said all that to say that I&#039;m stepping up to a better class of coins from the beginner that I was, but I still want to be careful...even moreso now that I&#039;m spending more money on the hobby.&nbsp; I did buy a counterfeit 1853 Gold $2.50 that the dealer did take back....it was made of real gold though, curious.&nbsp; Just thankful I haven&#039;t been burned.</p><p><br /></p><p>Wow, there&#039;s a lot to learn in this hobby.</p><p><br /></p><p>Any and all advice is appreciated.</p><p><br /></p><p>Thanks[/QUOTE]</p><p><br /></p>
