To All: Thanks for a great thread. Coniman: I have never had the same problem with the Whitman Barber dime album, but I have had it happen with the Barber quarters. Solution: Remove all coins, throw album in trash and buy a Dansco. That was the easiest solution that I have found. Seriously, I once purchased an album of Barber quarters and when I got it home I realized that, as I was removing the coins to put into a 'real' album, that there were (about) ten quarters that had slid into the center of the album. (They included a semi-key, 1897 S in G-4). Lesson learned, check all of those old albums carefully.
I hate to point out the obvious, but... His original post said that he had always had whitman folders and NOW just bought a Dansco and wasts to put the coins in the Dansco and is having issues.
If you have the patients you can slide the plastic sheets out using a rubber finger tip thing like they use in the banks. Then with a small sciccors cut a piece out of the end of the sheet so you will not have to do that again. Or to really save time use a Butane Torch to melt the plastic completely and the slots will no longer be covered with that stuff. Or remove the pages completely and just glue the coins to the inside cover. Never, ever use a hammer of any type on your coins. Just get a bench grinder and grind off any excess material on the edge of the coins so they fall into the slots easier. Or go back to using Whitman Albums. My best suggestion is in order to not have any of these problems at all, just take all your coins, albums, etc and send them to me. Then your only question would be is how are my coins doing?
