I received my coins this morning. It's a nice set, they will become a part of my collection and I don't plan to sell them. Would I have paid $1000 for a set? $1000 for a set of modern coins with $155 value and 100K mintage?

 No! I don't like them that much. Why would anyone else?

Who are these people shelling out $1000? Everyone we hear from so far is doing the selling. I would love to hear from some buyers.

Just wondering how you came up with a $155 value? That is at the crux of the argument, right? Even at the issue price, if you say its a $155 value why did you pay the $300? Is $155 the melt value of the silver?

I have no idea what the value of the set is long term. I bought one for my son since its his birth year, and got greedy at the last second thinking I might make money on 4 more. As to the sets "value" long term, I am not sure. I keep eyeing the two coins in the set with 100k mintage and wondering what their long term value will be. I really don't know, but suspect the two combined is most of the value of the set.

As for what I would have paid if I didn't buy any from the mint? I may have paid up to $500, maybe $600, only because of my son. Anything more and I would have passed I believe.

My set on Ebay sold for $750. Not a $1000 but good enough for me.:)

IMO extinct and endangered and other perth mint sets are far better than this not only in design but also in likely hood that they will retain their premium decades down the road.

after paypal it usually works out to 12-13%

  10. It is odd that we never hear from these buyers. Probably flippers selling to other flippers. I collect ASEs. I bought one set for my collection. Would I pay the current eBay prices? NO. TC

Anyone getting one of these sets for less than a grand is a lucky person. This set is absolutely historic- the best item produced by the US mint for decades- this set is cool as heck. Just look at it in the vids posted here

First sets being sold are over $800 each on ebay. WOW

if you see this set as a cheap piece of junk all I can say is that you are not really into coins. As for me I am just stunned by this set- it is beyond words.

I am clueless as to how you got that I was calling these coins "cheap piece of junk" from what I posted. I'm one of the very few on there that has stated that I didn't buy these coins to sell on ebay on a flip. Someone who is "not really into coins" doesn't do this.

  15. You must be in sales. :) My set arrived today, and I do like it. I also like my UHR gold and fractional gold buffalos too. TC

I suppose you didn't stop to think for a second as to what that might be? If not, it's posted above. Context Son, context.

If it ever comes down to a reasonable price I may buy one. Reasonable to me is less than $100 over metal value. So I'm probably not getting one.

I think this issue is one of the "ones that got away" from me (since I didn't get an order in for it). In hindsight, I would have liked to get in on the 5 sets limit, because YES! I would have sold them on eBay ASAP. Simple arithmetic. People want them, and they are willing to pay a high premium to get them. I think this may go down as an issue that right after the sales, the prices go UP UP UP, and like any bubble, will pop and prices will settle down to a more reasonable price. If I really wanted to keep one, that's fine, I could do that and still sell the others, and use the profit to buy coins that are more steady in price.
I could be wrong, but I see this as people rushing in in the excitement, where a year or several down the line, the hoopla won't be behind it, and people will be selling these at a lower, more "in line" cost with what they are.
