I remember the story because of the amount of half dollars they were trying to redeem. More than the Mint had minted.

I wonder if those people were ever prosecuted, and if so, how heavily punished they were.

Messing with a nations money system by a foreign agent amounts to sabotage, which carries the death penalty.

Even a greater reminder of the immanent threat counterfeits have to our hobby.

Wow, the trouble some will go through to get a crooked buck. Why not just put the same effort into some thing legitimate to earn a living. If they where clever enough to come up the idea, make them, and then pass them for a while, Meow is sure they could be clever enough to live clean life.

I've known people in my life who would rather steal a dime than earn a dollar, people who would rather climb a tree to tell a lie than stand on the ground and tell the truth.

As my Mom used to say " It takes all kinds.".

    But only a 0.125% chance.

    Or was it 0.00125%?
