Normally, I'd insert my snarky 'necro', but not in this case. Shoot Tommy, I didn't know you went back so far............
I had one copy of the Spadone book when I was in junior high school or high school. The only thing I remember about it was that he said that Gem Proof coins had to be cameo Proof coins. The others were just Proofs.
It's probably because of Spadone that I still collect bar nickels. These were 1960-D nickels with die chips above liberty and the date. I've found some 75 different combinations including different areas reengraved. Many are Unc because I've searched rolls, bags, and circulation. I probably couldn't get $5 for the set but it's been worth a small fortune in fun.
I've seen ads to buy, sell, and trade bar nickels as recently as the mid-'90's but these are nearly forgotten now days.
Have you seen that Variety Vista put a new section on there main page. JN Bar Errors. http://varietyvista.com/index.htm
Knock me over with a feather. It probably increases the value of my collection at least to $10. I've gone through several bags and many thousands of nickels to put this together. It's still only about $4 face value though. These used to be popular but I thought they were forgotten. I'll check later and see if Variety Vista pictures any I don't have.
