And those prices are on the low side. Grade 1 saffron reaches around 250$/ounce

But look at the 28 ounce price. Almost a troy ounce, much less than an ounce of gold, and not quite as fencable as gold, (assuming you are not an idiot and you melt down the bars and recast them). :)

I was just saying he had all of those precautions for about $400,000 worth of saffron, and these idiots take NONE of those precautions for a truck full of gold? Unlikely unless they did so on purpose.

There was an armored truck broke down on the side of the highway last week on my way to work. Had four trooper cars and two sheriff's cars surrounding it. Figured with my luck, I would blowout a tire right beside it.

Oh, absolutely! You think they are gonna get out and walk around the truck and a carfull of robbers just happens to be there?? That armored car is like a self contained tank with bullet proof windows and tamper-proof doors. They would sit there and radio all the law establishments in the area and wait self contained for backup help! Definitely another poor devised inside job!!

Well, all I know is that regardless of whether it's an inside job or not, someone's in deep, deep water... :O

Okay, truth be told, it was those damn moonshiners who thought it was a semi full of "shine" that they could grab and make a fortune on. Just wait until the "moonschlager" moonshine comes to the market....moonshine with gold flakes in it for your drinking pleasure!!!

I went to college for a year where this took place. Not much happenin' in those parts. That's why I had to get out.

    OK. Lets see now.

Semi-truck with Gold and Silver and an escape "Van"?

The national news is reporting "bars" but. again, I have my doubts since even a five gallon "barrel" full of gold "bars" would be extremely heavy.

I think a lot more information is needed on this since I seriously doubt that a "van" could hold $4+ million dollars in gold. Or maybe my math is all screwed up.

I calculate $4 million in gold weighs less than 300 pounds. Why couldn't a van carry that?

    Use this equation

    (($4400000+ $1207) × 0.068571)= approx 250 lbs.

haven't you seen the movies where they have military grade equipment, and spray foam onto the side of the car to break the wall out?

I used $4,000,000/$1200/31*454 which gave me a similar answer. I just used estimates to see how many ounces, take it back to grams, and back into pounds. Either way, not a lot of weight.
