You're more than welcome. You have to start somewhere. We all were at that point once.

By the way, just won the auction on eBay for this King Edward III silver groat! The seller seems very reputable with his rating and all : saxbys-coins

Saxbys is a fake seller. A well-known fake seller. Don't let his reputation fool you.

I can't confirm nor can I say for a fact but I've heard more than a few complaints about Saxbys coins. Just be careful on Ebay.

Wow, really? How is it that his sellers rating is so dang high then? Really hoping the coin I just purchased doesn't turn out to be a fake! By the looks of the pictures, it seems to be genuine. Thank you for the information..will have to look more carefully into it.

The problem is, Saxby's typically has a handful of fakes mixed in with a bunch of authentic coins, so you've got to know your stuff.

Saxbys may have sold authentic coins for a very long time, and he does have real ones in with the fake ones. So, sell real coins for a long time and then later, people trust the dealer with the high rating and that makes his sales increase.

Well I may check twice before ever purchasing from him again in the future - -considering if I ever do again, the good rating sold me this time so can only hope the one I just purchased turns out to be legit :(

He is on Forvm's Notorious Fake Sellers List. Think about someone who buys a fake coin and it isn't hard to see why a seller selling fakes could have a good reputation: someone buying a fake, thinking it's authentic, isn't going to magically realize it is a fake once they receive it. Plenty of people don't ever share their purchases with enough people to find out they got a fake, unfortunately, so they give good feedback and go on thinking they had a good transaction when they got a fake

I wish I could tell you something about the groat, but it's not my line.

Anyone that consistently sells fakes and knows they are selling fakes is unethical. I won't give such a dealer any business at all.

I agree, and especially if he is on Forvm's list, I will never be purchasing from him again! Noobish mistake on my part :( Any one who may know about the silver groat I just purchased, mind telling me if the picture represented is a strong presentation of a legit coin?

Many of the coins in Saxby's inventory are legit, so just because you bought from them does not mean you got a fake groat. But I agree with Gil that if a dealer doesn't even try to cull the fakes out of his offerings, he's lost my respect, and I won't risk buying from him, or supporting him in any way.

Don't let it make you nervous either. There are far more real coins on the market than fakes at any given time it seems like to me.
