Do you think there would be anyone nearby me that would be able to identify it? Zip code in U.s. 14701 or would I have to send it out and who could I seND to?

Fairly specialized item and the number of people who could tell you about it is small. No need to send it to anyone. The pictures re good enough.

Most paper money dealers and collectors are in Kansas City this week for the biggest paper money only show in the country. Might be a dealer there. If I were going I would search out someone for you and show them this thread. Anyone else going that could help out?

I really appreciate the help. I don't know the first person to send it to. If anyone out there knows someone that may be able to shed some light on this, please send them a link to this thread.

If you're trying to find out if it's worth a ton of money, I'm not confident that it would fetch a large amount.
If nobody here knows what it is, then chances are it's not a popular or otherwise wanted issue.
Supply and demand are everything, and even if you have the single example in the world, then it's still only worth as much as somebody would pay you for it.

Since there are few world paper money collectors on this site the fact that no one here can identify it is not that meaningful.

Now, if it had an inverse, drowning sonar serial number on it there would be scores of people on this site interested.

I posted photos on a different forum asking about it. If I hear anything from its members I'll let everybody know.

I don't think it is currency.(IDK) But the bond coupon thing looks right, if it is a small note (the size of a large rectangular postage stamp.)

The item is a 1/2 (medio) real voucher - can be considered as emergency money or Notgeld - issued by the municipality of Quetzaltenango in Guatemala. It was issued prior to 1915.

For further information it may be helpful to contact a numismatic shop in Guatemala City - the capital. There is an active numismatic community in Guatemal and I am sure that someone there would be interested in this item.

You can surf the internet in order to establish contacts. When I was in Guatemala over ten years ago, there was an American there who operated a coin shop. I don't know if he is still in business today.
