Cool repunched date. Not in Cherrypickers Guide. Holder says "Minor Variety RPD." It is a MS63. The doubling shows in the upper loops of the 8's. @ldhair
Thanks! I think that's right. Think the really late die state is what threw me off. Obverse die is mush! Apparently, Rick Snow calls this the "Sleepy Eyes variety."
I agree with the "late die state" analysis. LOTS of metal flow lines on the obverse and most of the feathers have lost definition on the ends.
Anyone know the Snow variety for this Indian Cent? 'Packed Powder'......and that's an idiot 'drive by' from an 'it ain't the booze talking' sort.......
Major die erosion on that one. I can look it up on Saturday, but weak doubling might not survive heavy die wear, and die fatigue doubling starts to rear its ugly head on dies like this.
And I thank the people who ID'ed the Snow variety. I was about to drag out Snow Attribution Guide but you saved me the effort. They are heavy and I'm old
