I am going to Madrid, Spain for a couple of days for work and was wondering if anyone knows of any good coin shops there. Any suggestions?

Coin shops in Madrid ? Never been to Spain, apart from some islands. Without being unduly political, but recent history of Spain includes the Franco era. Didn't he see himself as some kind of modern Caesar ? Lots of Spanish coins with the Generalissimo's image.

Yes, the coins minted in the Franco years do have the effigy of Franco as he claimed to be a sort of placeholder for the king. Spanish coins minted after his death, thus in the past 40+ years, do not ...

As for Madrid, every Sunday there is a coin market at Plaza Mayor. And around the square there are also a few coin stores.

Actually, that is a political comment but in the context of a nation that has minted coins since Roman times, I'm not sure that your point is particularly relevant for someone visiting Madrid, now.

Relevant or not, "someone visiting Madrid" may decide, on this page or off it. To myself, if not to jgenn, it is highly relevant. If I was visiting, for instance, Germany, I would want to know the Nazi background, which most people would. But fascism in Spain may, for many, have faded into the mists of time. Yet it continued into around the 1950's, as modern Franco coinage will testify. If I were visiting X-country, I would want to know something of the history and of the present. Else I would be visiting as an utter stranger and leaving as an utter stranger. But we may have to agree to differ.

Lots of coin shops in Madrid, unlike the U.S. I found a couple of pieces that looked nice, but i knew nothing of the going rate for them so i made a decision and bought these 2 for $200 USD. Both are MS, but the crown is low ms because of the bigger contact mark on the face. The un peseta is probably ms64 or better and has super reflective fields. These are 2 of the only original coins I've found at multiple coin shops that weren't cleaned, with most being harshly cleaned. Pics are from a crappy cell camera.
