I have not been following this thread as there was no way I could get to NYC, I have just read it and am biting my knuckles totally green with envy. Congratulations everyone who won something, the images are stunning.
I'm finishing up breakfast and about to walk down to the Waldorf. I'm going to review the RBW library lots the attend the Preview when it opens at noon. I loves this day every year.
We shall fossick the remaining lots & glean the bourse floor on the weekend. Anyone planning to be at NYINC on Saturday? Please just PM your cell number or tell us where you will be so we can connect on the bourse floor. Ancient Noob & I will be there on Saturday only this year. Here are three coins from the last time ANoob & I traveled to NY 2-years ago. It was a good trip that left us with good memories & good coins. Sikyon: Messana: Kyme:
It was great meeting everyone at the NYINC Saturday! JA treated ANoob & me to lunch (thanks again JA) & several good coins were found by all. I'll take photos of my new crab tet soon. JA gave a great presentation Saturday evening on Nabatean coins. JA introduced himself as an amateur but the audience was full of published scholars and they were all riveted. ANoob got a couple photos at the presentation which I'm sure he will post.
I was starting to worry about you guys, taking trains home in the middle of the night. Y'all didn't get mugged, did you?
I walked away from the NYINC nearly empty handed after 10 hrs of searching. The highlight of the show was certainly meeting JA. (thanks for lunch bruh) As collect89 already stated JA gave a Nab presentation in a room of published scholars and everyone was on the edge of their seats.
Lol. Yeah, you guys look like a couple of thugs. I should have looked up more, but given only a week to prepare, I really didn't have time to memorize much.
that's awesome! i bet it rocked! New York City are ready to hear about Nabatean coinage?! yeaaaah! I can't hear you! ....I said...ARE YOU READY TO HEAR ABOUT NABATEAN COINAGE?! YYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
In all seriousness, I would have enjoyed talking to people after the meeting. There was a dinner being held, but I had a long trip back to PA and wanted to hit the road. Maybe next year I'll just pony up the funds to stay in NY for the weekend. I really could have spent another day at the tables.
Sometimes I question whether I make the trip to a show because I want coins or because I enjoy the excursion. Perhaps the answer will be "Both!" but I still feel like I paid double if I spend $50 on a bus going to a show where I buy one $50 coin. That is as good an excuse for spending more as I have. The last time I was in NYC, Nixon was President and Gimbel's department store had an ancient coin department. I had a book "NY on $5 a Day" that pointed out some good places to eat. I doubt it has got any better??? http://www.amazon.com/New-York-Day-Joan-Feldman/dp/B0007FIUCS
Nicely done, JA => man, it looks like you nailed your talk, eh? Yah, I definitely thought that you'd be this guy ... ... but apparently you changed 'er up a bit and went with a modified version of Ali's rope-a-dope strategy and lulled them into a state of submission (well played) => bravo, JA ... bravo!! Sounds fun ... it sounds like Noob and C89 were probably making animal sounds in the back of the room, eh? (good times)
You going to share a summary of the presentation here? Maybe you'll get the coveted "featured thread."
