Hell! I'm wondering if someone could look up a token in Cunningham for me - my copy is still somewhere between England and Korea. Token in question is from Harvard Nebraska Army Airfield, Gent's Den, good for 20 cents. Could someone look it up for me please? Thanks!
I don't see any listings for that airfield, or Gent's Den or fantasy pieces by those names. Maybe a recent fantasy piece?
Harvard Army Airfield in Nebraska wasn't listed? Dang. Looks like Harvard Army Airfield was a base that closed down in 1946.
With 20c denomination, for a WWll token, I'm wondering if it's a very recent fantasy piece? And Gent's Den doesen't really sound like the right tone for WWll. Unless it's a play on Harvard.
Or you might find something here. https://www.google.com/url?q=http:/...3IzHKA&usg=AFQjCNEGoIB1UQ0dVaF4hzYvatrixjc9hw
Thanks for the link I found it there. Here's the link: http://tokencatalog.com/display_rec...ingAnyWord=&HomePageSearch=&view=All+Listings Not sure how they break down the token info but the bolded part was TC-46031.
Gent's Den may be spinny talk for "come and get it boys." Which would be better find since most brothels are fantasies. And it would explain why it wasn't cataloged by Curto or Cunningham.
Well, the only thing I have linking it to the AAF (Army Air Field) is the sellers description. Asked seller about how it was determined to be from the base. Will update with what the reply is.
Here is a retail ad for one: http://www.thetokenstore.com/store....ka_token_gents_den_20amp162_tavern_ww11_years plus "The Gents Den was a Tavern that served the men training to become B 24 bomber pilots at Harvard Army Airfield during WW 11..."
George Hosek lists Gent Den on line 1214 of "Nebraska Maverick Trade Tokens", 1st edition, 1998, and attributes it to Harvard, but does not provide any additional information. In his 2006 book on Nebraska tokens, only one collection of 40 surveyed had a token from Harvard, so either it is a scarce token, or possibly collectors do not realize its city of issue.
I'll have to look at that page later...can't right now, but the quoted text sounds like the same description I was looking at.
Ok, the seller copied the description of the token from another like it, so not much to go on from there. Looks like I'm going to have to do some more research here.
