Re: the 1884 O I don't know if AT or NT. Vess1's point is well taken and this is Doug's view (GDMSP). If you can't tell and it's nice looking who cares? Lehigh could pipe in on some of these coins. I think his opinion is valuable on any toned coins.
Well then good, I won't feel to bad about the coins I bought if they turn out to be AT. But now that I think I know more they look AT'd.
Look up AT vs NT under "Search". I think Doug has spoken the most eloquently on this subject of everything I have read here at Coin Talk. I don't always agree with all his points on cleaning and conservation, but like how he summarized the debate in some recent post, IMHO. Can't remember the name of the post. If the coin is attractive and looks natural then that's all that matters to me. I know Mike (Leadfoot) feels differently and wants to know for sure how a coin came to be toned, if one could know. Most people only care if a coin "looks" natural IMHO.
Duplicate- sorry. Darn Blackberry phone! I hope I didn't misquote anyone above. These statements are off my memory of prior posts
Wow, some gorgeously toned coins! I just love looking at all the pretty colors and am impressed that silver/nickel coins can have such amazing colors. I am partial to copper, particularly because of the way they tone. Any way, here are a couple of my toned copper cents.
Here's a toned proof rosie ("mrmag" is my name on the PCGS forums) http://s55.photobucket.com/albums/g150/MG1100/?action=view¤t=redproof.jpg I'll try to get more pictures this weekend
Here are a few American Eagles - Obverse These American Eagles have been in storage since purchased. They have been in white envelopes and the toning is varied by coin.
Here are a few American Eagles - Reverse Here is the back side of the "here are a few American Eagles - Obverse".
