I got this in a bulk load of German coins. It is a 1949F 10 pfenning coin, not in great shape, but it is the stamp that got me curious. The scan does not do it justice - it is clear and exact. Anyone have any idea what this "R" may be?
I searched and came up with nothing. Looks like a simple but neat counterstamp. You can tell it was not done centered nor evenly. What does the other side look like? Maybe someone just practicing with a metal punch. Interesting. Thanks for sharing.
"The Bank deutscher Länder, abbreviation BdL, was the forerunner of the Deutsche Bundesbank. It was founded on 1 March 1948. The main task of the BdL was to manage currency policy in the American and British occupation zones in Germany." -Wikipedia http://coinquest.com/cgi-bin/cq/coins?main_coin=1632 That R was very likely someone messing around with a punch.
