Heck, I am not retired (well unemployed presently) and I have not worn a tie in past 10 years. When I am working (April-Nov.) I wear camo pants/ running shoes with socks/ no shirt/ baseball cap and I would have it no other way. Great way to get a tan/ drink ice cold Coronas on the job and make enough $ to pay the bills/ buy at whack of nice AV coins. I do not think I ever want to retire, rather work hard/ play hard/ and it allows me to consume 5000 + calories a day and keep a size 30 waist
I've tried making that suggestion but it goes over their heads. In truth, my one son has bought me a couple of coins in the past, but not at Christmas and last year he had the display case made for my MA Legionary Denarii. But in all honesty, I expect nothing because I really want for nothing. Like @dougsmit I try to give and encourage others in my family to give to those less fortunate. I am blessed and would like to share some of that blessing.
My mom always gives me a gift card I always use to buy a coin with, obviously I pick it out. Last years This year I picked the coin from my wife and am hoping it will be here for Christmas, other than that my wife got me a pair of IsoTunes Pro that arrived last week and I am already using those.
You will change your mind the older you get. In my 30's I also owned a landscape outfit, I was mostly on the construction part and very little maintenance. But as I grew older I had the chance at the childhood dream which I do now, building airplanes. But as I get even older I just want to hunt and fish and collect old coins & stuff, and be lazy when the opportunity allows it.
Not getting coins from the fam. But I did get myself a numismatic Christmas present of my own, from me to myself. I found a copy of volume 2 of the Annam Senpu over in Japan. According to Scott Semans this is out of print and impossible to find. I found it, and I bought it. Merry Christmas Mr. jcm!
I buy coins for my nieces and nephews every year, but I usually don't receive them as gifts. My sister gave me a nice Morgan dollar a few years ago, but then she was disappointed to find out I already had several Morgans in my collection. I had to explain to her that I didn't have that particular year or mint mark, so it was a great addition to my collection.
Me too! But in order to get all these nice things....we have to work hard. In reality I love my work, its like going to the gym and getting paid to stay in excellent shape. But my dream profession would be as an archeologist, again I love historical things, esp. coins. Sadly it does not pay as well as maintaining lawns/ gardens, where I make enough to have 150K for my hobbies after paying the bills.... Being lazy, its not in my DNA, I just have to do something, fun things, work. I really feel sluggish after watching a great movie, have to get up and walk "Thor".
My wife's "Santa" gift to me came in the mail today...I happened to see the return address and know the sender well. Seems as if I will be getting some uncleaned coins in my stocking this year Now I just have to wait a week to see what they are
