I would like to go and get myself a load of 1689 halfpennies in mint state, but it just isn't possible !
Try Russia when gold and platinum coins both circulated around 1830s. That can't be any better as Russia is the only country that managed to have platinum coins for circulation (other parts of Europe such as France and Spain had gold plated platinum coins but never as strictly platinum).
Sure... I would love to go back to 1933. Drop by the Philly Mint. Grab one of those St. Gaudens Double Eagles ! Then I could... :headbang: oh wait... never mind.
lol, yes im ressurecting this. I have always thought if there ever was a time machine created, i would go back in time and rob a bank of all of the gold. lol.
Why get a job or risk robbing a bank? Just bring a LOT of generic silver bullion back with you and exchange it for gold coin. Gold-silver ratio of 15:1 back then compared to ~50:1 now.
You should seek help - in building your time machine that is. I wouldn't call that a dream as much as a fantasy and one that I've had as well. Hey, let's not get into crazy details - it's a fantasy folks! Personally, I thought bringing a bunch of circulated large cents would work though (we can still get those you know). Go back to 1856 and get in line to exchange one for one of them "new fangled" small cents. I'd pay anyone in line 5 large cents for one stinkin 1856 Flying eagles. When I got back I'd send them to SGS - oops I meant PCGS.
I just want to go back in time and slap myself in the head for not putting away tons of coins that were all over the place when I was a kid. Back then MOST dimes were Mercury Dimes. Many were Liberty Head and some Sitting Liberty. Most Quarters were Standing Liberty, Lots and lots of Buffalo Nickels and all brand new. Indian Head Cents were common. I started colllecting in 1943 with those funny looking, shinny, Silver looking pennies came out. If I could only go back and tell myself to stash as many as possilbe somewhere where I could now find them. No coin books, no web sites, no coin shows, no coin collectors that I ever heard of. A coin store not far from whre I lived slowly went out of buisness since no one collected coins.
I have often thought about that. What if I went back in time to the mid and late 1800's and knocked off a few stagecoaches? I think about the scene in Back To The Future II when Doc gave Marty some money in the year 2015. He had a briefcase of money from different time periods. I thought that was also a cool concept.
Just kidding about the stagecoaches. Don't go calling Wells Fargo or anything. I thought it would be cool to set up a shop and make a few bucks and bring some of the more interesting pieces back. Or standing in line back in the 1960's waiting for the old Morgans to be released.
If I could go back in time I'd take the $5,000 I inherited in 1979 and invest it in Microsoft stock. Then I'd be able to buy any coin I wanted now.
Ya know guys, you really need to talk to Twiggs - she actually HAS a time machine. Only thing is, she's been going forward in time and getting coins from the future
