I hope I posted this on the correct forum. I was wondering if anyone has ever had any experience buying or selling on USA Coin Book.com? I have seen the website, but I've never even signed up. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I've bought a few select things. You really have to check the coin, compare to other venue prices, etc.
Yes, I just started using USACB this year. I've made a few purchases, and sold perhaps 10 items. It's been a somewhat sleepy place that is building a head of steam lately.
Ohh my. I just checked the website out. It has a 2% sellers fee. How great is that. I will be telling all of my friends about the site.
I've been cutting my new listings to eBay and adding more to USACB for a few months now. I don't expect any improvements from eBay, so I'll just continue doing this a little at a time.
It makes a lot of cents, I mean sense! I think if we can keep spreading the word it will gain popularity!
I'm very new there, but trying to do my part. In fact, you just reminded me that I need to do something else that had dropped off my radar screen.
I went and checked it out. Looks like the same deal with eBay - high BIN pricing. I guess it's better for the seller, but the buyer looks like they get the same deal without the protection provided by eBay.
I will say that USACB is far less tolerant of fake coins on their site than eBay is. I advised them of a bad coin on their site and, poof . . . it was gone within the hour.
. . . And yesterday they took down and banned a newbie seller who was advertising a too good to be true item belonging to a prominent dealer from eBay. Used same photos and claimed to be offering the same serial numbered coin at about 20% of the real seller's price.
Ebay is loaded with fake coins and they do very little to stop it. I gave up reporting them, they don't do much about it.
That's exactly why I'm excited about USACB . . . Unlike eBay, it's devoted to the coin market, and nothing else.
For what it may be worth, John Wexler has been using it for years now, and I also had an account and sold a few things when still involved in the hobby. It had very little traffic then (I've no idea how it is now) but otherwise was okay. I've no complaints.
The only possible issues I have with this is the potential for abuse. While you may know what you're taking about and/or may honestly be trying to do the right thing, unfortunately the same cannot be said for everyone.
I cannot disagree, yet we must recognize that USACB has it all over eBay. They are completely vested in the coin market, and not in any other. That leaves them the advantage of putting all of their focus on the fake coin problem . . . something that eBay simply cannot afford to do. eBay is spread too thinly between all of the markets it is tied into, and will never adequately address the problem with fake coins. Address it, yes . . . adequately, no.
