Looking through toners on eBay, I came across this Buffalo. I've seen star designations on NGC coins and plus designations on PCGS coins but never both on one! http://www.ebay.com/itm/1938-D-Buffalo-Nickel-NGC-MS67-PLUS-STAR-Rare-Rainbow-Monster-Toned-Z1-/280861087619?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item4164a01783#ht_576wt_1166 ___________________________________ 1938 D BUFFALO 5C MS67+[SUB]* [/SUB] XXXXXXX-XXX ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| /\/\NGC _______________________________________________
He only used the "Rainbow" description in his title. Afterwards he lists colors in the red and gold spectra only, and a series of disclaimers about lighting and angles. Even the posibility of marks and wear you can't see. He is really trying to cover his backside there. Then no refund but only a store credit if you disagree with him and return it for any reason. This is the kind of thing that makes you wonder about the whole sale and the seller's intent in general.
Yes, I have seen one before with both a plus & star designation. And yes, you guys are being awfully hard on this seller. Seems that talking about E-Bay toned coins sellers on internet coin forums is all the rage these days. I am still looking for one with a plus, star, & 5FS designation.
So those designations actually exist? Wow! Also, pardon my ignorance, but what is a "5FS designation"?
5 full steps I believe. Hey Lehigh- can there be a nickel with +*PL 5FS? I think I just sent a PL 5FS to auction.
Love this Commem. Notice the arrows at the base of the palmetto tree (reverse)? South Carolina's varied tribute to the two wars fought on her ground. The palmetto was instrumental in fortifications protecting Charleston harbor in the revolutionary war. Palmetto trees proved better than British oak.......
I have never seen a PL * Jefferson but theoretically it is possible. I think the label of this coin should read: 1943-P Jefferson Nickel DDO NGC MS65 + * 5FS Now that would be cool!
This seller is about 45 miles North of where I live in a little place called Aumesville, Oregon. I bought a toned 1970-S Jefferson from him a few months back for my toned nickel collection. When I got the coin, it was much better looking than the picture was. Just gorgeous. If you're a fan of toned coins, he occasionally has quite a few on hand. Spendy, but probably worth every cent if that's what you're collecting.
