I just sold all my full rolls and bought a 1850 One Dollar Gold Liberty Head and a 1912 Gold Quarter Eagle Indian Head. That was way too much money to have tied up in Presidential Dollars. The one's that are in my Mint Sets are all I really need.
I collect them but only have 5, I just cant find them. Currently on a man hunt for the Ulysses S Grant coin, but cant for the love of me find it.
My local bank is where all my rolls came from. I would say 50% or more of the banks in my area have them, but I'm in a large metropolitan area and the demand must be there. Interestingly, with all the availability, I have yet to see one pop up in circulation. We must have a lot of collectors or hoarders living around here.
I have both proof and uncirculated P&D from Mint sets from each year. If Congress does not pass the bill on the floor now to discontinue the Presidential dollars, I will have the entire series. Why? As another stated, because I am a collector.
I do, I have a Dansco with Unc P&D from mint sets, and I am helping my grandson fill a Whitman album with visits to the bank. Why??? I like them! and it is getting my grandson interested in collecting.
I can get pres. dollars from the machine that sells train tickets, it costs 8 bucks/ ticket but it takes 10s, so it pays in dollar coins, I wonder what would happen if I bought 1 ticket with a 20 dollar bill
I only collect Proofs. why? Well as been stated I collect. But I do think over time they will disappear and most of the remaining ones will be in our hands, collectors. Think back to ALL those SBA they had sitting around forever. Now, getting a proof is not hard but sure worth more than a buck!
