Most libraries I've seen have open stacks (Except for the Rare Books area) and you can just walk into them and find the book yourself. On the other hand if you live as far from the Library as you say and you wind up needing to make a second trip to get other information some other day, you will have spent more on gas than on simply buying your own copy that you can refer to as often as you like.
