Just read the article – an unrelated comment brought to mind the whole problem with the CCAC and our modern coin designs, although there are some good ones. His comment about avoiding “Busy” coin designs. MY GOD! The era known as the “Golden Age of Coin Design”, the early 20th century, produced some of the most intricate, original coin designs that are true works of art. Am I missing something? Has the CCAC sacrificed true art for less busy, unoriginal, clip art for their purported reason that the design will accent the cameo proof, rather than the proof accenting the design? And, has the mint gone alone with this because it makes it easier for them to produce a simple design? Heck, why not make the design a super simple large numeric value – like plastic play money? Same CCAC mentality is at play with the HOF designs. Although they required some skill to engrave, I see NO art in them. What did the artist do takes pics of a glove & ball?
