Anybody getting to the "Who cares?" stage with the HOF coins?

I should hate the baseball dollar because I hate modern designs and non traditional coins but I can't help but to like this one. It's a "think outside the box" design. Too bad they cost so much. Maybe the prices will fall once the hype is over.

Well put a building or something else with straight lines onto a curved surface and you end up with a distorted looking building, unless you distort the building so that on a curved surface it looks normal. (but see pictures of the coin and the building will look distorted because you can't see the three dimensional aspect in a two dimensional picture.) The natural curvature of the glove as you are looking into the pocket compliment the curvature of the coin, just as the curved surface of the basebal compliments the convex side of the coin. I think that one reason why ball gloves were a common feature of the finalists was because that most of the public submitted designs did not take the effect of the curved surface into account

Was this part of the line at Baltimore?

I'm not old enough to have bought anything from the Mint which I considered a good value . . . and I'm in my middle 50's, after starting to collect at age 9. Colonel Green is an entirely different story, or course.

The US Mint has not "served" the people since 1914 before the creation of the Federal Reserve, and their profit-center mentality has been evident since then . . .

Got my "update" from the mint (rather, the incompetents that are doing the order fulfillment): Now it is May 10th for the Unc. Silver and Proof. Any bets?????????????

Yeah, I don't know about that date. I have the same date for the proof silver HOF and I see the same date for the 5 oz Smoky and silver proof sets. Very strange if they're all bo'd to the same date.

I had to return a nasty silver $1 proof the other day. Its replacement is now 'in stock and reserved'. I didn't think I'd get a replacement at all.

Well I just received an email from MCM they have the BB HOF silver dollars signed by Cal Ripken & Nolan Ryan
Now to me that's a real "Who Cares" I know others may feel different and that's OK

This thread cracks me up. I think we'd all agree the the logistics and communication from the mint completely sucks. That being said, I think these are my favorite modern commem. I don't collect modern commemoratives but this one is certainly better than the rest. All politics aside, I think it's a winner.

I know a couple baseball fans that are eager to get those coins because of the autographs.

I know one of the bigger dealers (Larry Shapiro), tried to name his son after Nolan Ryan. There might be more coin collectors who are also baseball fanatics than previously anticipated.

I'm always amused at collectors of US coins who complain about the mint. If we hanging around the mint in 1793, we would see total confusion, no organization, politics galore, and utter incompetence. Things are much better at the mint in 2014 than they were just a few years ago.

Well you weren't going to get one but they took a last look around and discovered that someone had just returned a nasty looking one so they boxed it up.......

Imagine going to a hospital in 1793 when the main operating devices were saws.

Only for amputations (And they still use saws for that.) They used more knives (They thought bleeding patients was a good idea back then), and needle and thread. If you were real lucky your surgeon MIGHT even wash his hands.
