The auction for that 1877 Indian head cent that I had inquired about a while back was held earlier this evening. It came home with me.
Very nice cwt you have there porkchop. In case you did not have the id of your token, it is 11/298a. It has an R-1 rarity rating (over 5000 known). I'm glad you had good pics. Reverse die 298 was struck with obverse dies 10 & 11, and they are nearly identical except for the number of beads around the rim. Yours has 92 beads, die 10 only has 90.
Wow Charmy! Sweet coins. I have a similar 1899 (maybe a 64/65) raw. I don't think PCGS will grade. It seems to me NGC grades these rainbow type coppers more easily.
I will try to take some pics tomorrow when I can utilize natural lighting. It is in an NCS slab, XF details, polished. But for what I paid I am very happy with it. It was in an old homemade display case (which I also now have) and part of the backing in the case was a local 1901 newspaper and some sort of advertising flyer also from 1901. The obverse was against the glass, so it is still fairly bright, but the reverse was closer to the newsprint and it, and all of the other cents in the case were dark on that side.
PennyLady, That 2 Cent proof is amazing, Bravo! Here is my latest pickup, that QDR 1939 Jefferson Nickel. It just has some even golden toning, but the rarity in MS67 is nice.
Somehow I must have been seduced by the darkside of coin collecting (varieties). If I find one of these with rainbow toning, watch out.
Thanks tmoney! Nice to have you back posting again, we missed your exuberance and we will forgive that you are a closet Jefferson collector.
PennyLady, that 99 IHC is beautiful, and the 1872 2 cent is really out there. The fields look amazing. So are you putting it aside for a 2 cent set? :smile
I am exited about this... I just bought this three days ago, it hasn't arrived yet but I am MEGA exited.. My first 66 Morgan, I looked at dozens of others before selecting this one. I just love this coin!!
